1. Understanding Gambling Risks
Sports betting, casino games and virtual sports are entertainment that you pay for. Over time the house edge in casino games and the deduction taken from every betting pool mean that customers as a group lose more than they win. Winning streaks happen, but they do not change the long-term maths. Gambling is never a way to earn income, pay bills or recover money already lost.
Keep gambling healthy by deciding in advance how much money and time you will spend, treating that money as the cost of entertainment, and never borrowing to gamble.
2. Minimum Age
You must be 18 or older, or the higher age set by your province or territory, to open an account: 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec and 19 everywhere else in Canada. Our registration form refuses anyone below that age, and identity verification confirms age before any money can be deposited. If you share a device with young people, use parental control software and do not leave your account signed in.
3. Recognizing Problem Gambling
Gambling may be becoming a problem if you recognize any of these signs:
- spending more money or time than you planned, or needing to stake more to feel the same excitement;
- trying to win back losses with bigger or more frequent bets;
- borrowing money, selling belongings or delaying bills to gamble;
- lying to family or friends about how much you gamble;
- feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not gambling, or gambling to escape problems;
- neglecting work, study or relationships because of gambling.
If several of these sound familiar, take a break now using the tools below and talk to one of the support organizations listed on this page. Help is free and confidential.
4. Deposit Limits
In Account > Limits you can set daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits in Canadian dollars. Once a limit is reached, further deposits are blocked until the period resets. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately. Raising or removing a limit takes effect only after 24 hours, giving you time to reconsider.
5. Loss Limits
Loss limits cap the net amount you can lose (stakes minus returns) in a day, week or month. When the limit is reached, you cannot place further bets or play casino games until the period resets. As with deposit limits, decreases apply immediately and increases or removals after 24 hours.
6. Session Limits
A session limit sets the maximum time you can stay signed in at once. When the time is up you are signed out automatically. Choose a session length in Account > Limits; shorter limits apply immediately and longer ones after 24 hours.
7. Reality Checks
Reality checks are on-screen reminders that show how long you have been signed in. You can set them to appear every 15, 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes, or switch them off. Each reminder lets you continue, review your limits or log out.
8. Cooling-Off Periods
If you want a short break, choose a cooling-off period of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days in Account > Breaks & Self-Exclusion. You are signed out immediately, you cannot sign in until the period ends, and the period cannot be shortened once it starts. You will not receive marketing messages during the break.
9. Self-Exclusion
Self-exclusion is for longer breaks when you want to stop gambling.
How to request it
Choose a period in Account > Breaks & Self-Exclusion and confirm with your password, or email support@lberta4.slonik.store from the address registered on your account with the words "Self-exclusion" and the period you want. Requests by email are applied as soon as they are read and confirmed by reply.
Available periods
6 months, 1 year, 3 years or 5 years.
Access restrictions
During self-exclusion you cannot sign in, place bets, play casino games or make deposits, and you are removed from all marketing. The exclusion cannot be cancelled or shortened before it ends, including at your request. Please do not try to open a new account; any account found to belong to an excluded person is closed.
After the period ends
Your account is not reopened automatically. To regain access you must write to support after the end date, and we may ask you to wait a further 24 hours before your account is reactivated. We also recommend that you consider your province's own self-exclusion programs and blocking software for your devices.
10. Account Restrictions
We may restrict an account ourselves if we see signs of harmful gambling, for example rapidly increasing stakes or repeated attempts to raise limits, or if a third party with a genuine concern contacts us. Restrictions can include lowering limits, pausing marketing or suspending the account while we talk to you. You can also close your account at any time in the Close account section of your account; a closed account cannot be used to gamble.
11. Risks of Live Betting
Following games as they happen can make betting feel urgent. Momentum swings, on-screen scores and the speed of play encourage quick decisions with little thought. Scores shown online can also be delayed. Decide on your bets before an event starts and avoid adding stakes because of what is happening on screen.
12. Chasing Losses
Chasing means betting more, or more often, to win back money already lost. It is one of the clearest warning signs of problem gambling and usually makes losses larger. Each bet is independent of the last; a run of losses does not make a win more likely. If you notice the urge to chase, stop for the day and use a cooling-off period.
13. Repeated Wagering
A full schedule of games across many leagues means there is always another event to bet on. Placing bet after bet without breaks makes it easy to lose track of time and money. Set a session limit and reality checks, and choose in advance how many events you will bet on.
14. Betting Impulsivity
Impulsive betting happens when stakes are placed in response to emotion, such as boredom, frustration, excitement or alcohol, rather than a plan. Avoid betting when you are upset, tired or have been drinking, and never bet on a team just because you support it.
15. Understanding Betting Odds
On our platform all sports bets are pool bets. Your potential return depends on how much everyone staked on each outcome and is only fixed after the pool closes. Popular selections pay less; less popular ones pay more but lose more often. A deduction is taken from every pool before winnings are shared, so the total paid back is always less than the total staked. Read how pool betting works before you place a bet.
